Beware, #somethingscoming… and it’s not pretty
To mark the launch of the UK premiere of new TV series Fear the Walking Dead, Neelam Rehman attended the official press premiere party in London last night on behalf of Frankly My Dear – and what a party it was!
Hosted by AMC and BT, the premiere party took place in the old Central St. Martins building in High Holborn and was decked out like a zombie apocalypse safety zone/hideout. The event was certainly immersive! Upon arrival, you had to provide a password before stepping through a walkway into the party. Of course, anyone can know a password these days and to be extra certain that you weren’t an imposter (or worse, a flesh eating zombie), members of the SWAT team had security checks going on. Guests were asked to walk through a body scanner where they would check your body for any virus or infection. Once you were clear, you were safe to follow through.
Wow. What an event! Small and intimate, the team certainly know how to put on a party. Camp beds were set up in the foyer in case you wanted a nap or a sit down with wooden tables to stand around and a bar area serving some killer drinks.
For about an hour, there was a lot of mingling with rations being served. I opted for the Mushroom Tarts that came in a foil bag and an entree that looked like human flesh, and of course, no party is a party without a bloody cupcake! Literally! I did find a bone shard within, but was informed it added flavour to the cake.
Everything was going well, and everyone was starting to relax, though some gate crashers clearly couldn’t handle the “invite only” policy. In the footage below, you’ll see that one woman was screaming as the SWAT team held her arms down, alerting to everyone “Look out! She’s going to bite! Keep her arms down!” Luckily, I got my cupcake before the others were completely destroyed by the sudden brawl between man vs wo-zombie! My bets are that she was after the cupcakes, than any human. This continued throughout the evening, getting everyone in the mood and prepared for the pilot episode.
Throughout the event, the SWAT team stayed true to their characters. They took their job seriously and were not wasting time with any jokes. Whilst I felt safe within their company, I was very intimidated. Anything could happen, right?
After the screening of the first episode of Fear the Walking Dead, many guests stuck around to discuss the series with each other. As far as the event goes, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I had a great night and would like to thank BT and AMC, as well as Frankly My Dear, for giving me the chance to attend such an experience! I do have to offer one piece of advice though. If you are offered a black vanilla flavoured macaroon, box it, or eat it straight away. Don’t wrap it in a tissue and put into your bag…my camera was covered in vanilla cream and my mic is filled with cream!
Check out Neelam’s vlog of the experience below along with some of her thoughts on the first episode!
