Fear The Walking Dead To Make UK Premiere on 31 Aug

Fear The Walking Dead

New prequel to The Walking Dead to be shown on AMC channel exclusive to BT customers

If you’re suffering from withdrawal symptoms following the end of season 5 of The Walking Dead, fear not my friends. A brand-new spin off show called Fear the Walking Dead is due to make its UK premiere on 31 August and it looks amazing!

Written as a prequel series to horror drama The Walking Dead (the #1 show on US television among adults), Fear the Walking Dead goes back in time to the start of the zombie apocalypse. The six-episode series set in Los Angeles, flashes back to a time when a mysterious “flu” outbreak (the onset of the undead apocalypse) begins to surface in five states. Check out the teaser trailer below:

Fear the Walking Dead – Official World Premiere Trailer

While Fear the Walking Dead is pitched as a prequel, you’ll notice from the trailer that it doesn’t actually share any characters or locations from its parent show, a bold decision by the series’ creators Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson. The show stands firmly on its own, both story-wise and character-wise, choosing to focus on a dysfunctional family struggling to stay alive rather than a cast of strangers united by circumstance. The new story dynamic also means you don’t require any prior knowledge of The Walking Dead to jump in and enjoy the series, opening itself up to a brand new audience.

Fear The Walking Dead Teaser ShotThe narrative of Fear the Walking Dead follows main protagonists Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) and Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis), two recently divorced schoolteachers who decide to move in together. Both have children from previous relationships; Madison has a daughter named Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) and a troublesome older son named Nick (Frank Dillane), Travis has estranged teenage son called Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie) from a previous marriage with Liza Ortiz (Elizabeth Rodriguez). In an attempt to survive both the plague and the zombies it creates, the family join together with other survivors as the world begins to disintegrate around them.

While the characters in Fear the Walking Dead may not be as familiar as those in The Walking Dead, many of the zombie rules from the original hit series still apply. In fact, the first season of Fear the Walking Dead takes place in the four to five weeks that Rick (Andrew Lincoln) lies in a coma during the pilot of The Walking Dead. So instead of waking up to the world already destroyed, we actually get to see the world get destroyed. Pretty exciting right?

UK viewers won’t have to wait too long to watch the series. Fear the Walking Dead will make its UK premiere at 9pm on 31 August on AMC, a brand new channel available exclusively to BT customers. Fans will also be pleased to hear that AMC recently announced a 15-episode order for the second season which will air in 2016.
